EXECUTIVE ASSESSMENT FOR TOP TEAM SUCCESSION PLANNING
A new CEO needed to know which of his 30 senior executives could step into the top team, and when. Here’s how we answered that.
Brief
A large construction company with over 5,000 employees and multibillion-pound revenue had a new CEO. He needed to understand the depth of leadership talent immediately below the top team. He wanted to know who would be ready now, in one to two years, in three to five years and beyond, and what each person needed to develop to get there. The Director of Talent asked MeasureCo to design the assessment.
Solution
Over six months we ran a five-stage programme. We profiled the top-team roles using annual reports, industry outlooks, job descriptions and our AI-based skills analysis, run on local language models so that sensitive data stayed private. The CEO and executive committee approved a framework covering four areas: preferences, drivers, skills and achievements. Each executive then completed BPS-registered personality and motivation questionnaires, a 360-degree feedback review and a three-to-four-hour structured biographical interview. Every executive received a detailed report, a 90-minute feedback session with a MeasureCo coach and a follow-up meeting with their manager and coach.
Results
The CEO received a readiness ranking for all 30 executives, showing who was ready now and who would be ready later. He also got a clear view of where to develop and where to hire for the top team over the next three to five years. Development needs shared across the group were addressed through a cohort-wide programme. Each executive left with a clear picture of their strengths and next steps.
